Disappearance of Shannon Matthews documentary to air exclusive interviews and chilling footage

A new documentary on the scam disappearance of a Yorkshire schoolgirl in 2008 will feature exclusive interviews and chilling footage never seen before.

The Disappearance of Shannon Matthews will be shown on Channel 5 next, telling the story of a case that gripped the nation.

The biggest manhunt since the Yorkshire Ripper was launched by West Yorkshire Police when the nine-year-old went missing on her way home from school in 2008, as reported by Leeds Live.

A two-part series follows on from an earlier Channel 5 documentary and BBC One's dramatisation of Shannon's case.

Britain was gripped and then horrified by the schoolgirls disappearance when it was revealed that her mother Karen Matthews had concocted the scam in the hope of collecting a £50,000 reward pot for Shannon's return.

Three weeks after she was reported missing, Shannon was found less than a mile away in her uncle's home - drugged and hidden in the base of a divan bed.

The disgraced mum, who has since moved away from Dewsbury following her release from prison, was recently seen house-hunting with her paedophile fiancé while clutching a bottle of Prosecco.

Featuring the insight of some of those closest to the case including Shannon's best friend, members of the local community, and the police officers who eventually found her, the programme reveals the remarkable truth of what really happened.

The first episode of 'The Disappearance of Shannon Matthews' will air on Channel 5 on Wednesday, February, 10 at 10pm.
