Disabled woman says McDonald's discriminated against her by refusing Happy Meal order

A disabled woman has filed a complaint against McDonald's as she says staff at a franchise chain discriminated against her.

Lynne Holman visited a drive-thru and ordered a Happy Meal with chicken nuggets but workers refused her order.

Staff told her that Happy Meals could only be ordered inside the store, and not at the drive-thru.

The incident took place at McDonald's Warwick Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire Live reports.

Miss Holman said: "I was told I couldn't order Happy Meals but I could have a medium chicken nugget meal, which is basically the same thing but larger and costs more.

"So I did this, and as I drove round to pay and go to the next window, I saw lots of people walking out the store with Happy Meals.

"I asked the staff about this, and they said that the manager has said that Happy Meals were only for customers that walked into the store, and not for drive-thru customers."

But Miss Holman said she was not able to walk into the store to make her order, because she is disabled.

The incident happened two weeks ago, and in the following days, she got in touch with the fast-food giant to complain.

"I contacted head office over a week ago as this is discrimination against disabled people as I couldn’t go into the store and was being penalised because of my disabilities," she told LeicestershireLive.

"I had to chase them up several times, and still the manager of Loughborough McDonald’s has not got back to me.

"They have tried to give me a £10 voucher but I’ve got to spend £10 first.

"I emailed them saying that I was disgusted with them thinking that all I wanted was vouchers. I just think it’s so sad that people with disabilities are discriminated against and this needs to stop."

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "We are aware of this customer’s complaint and our customer services team is working with both the customer and the restaurant to find a resolution.”
