Disabled Scots pensioner hit with £80k council bill for care of dead mother

A disabled OAP was shocked to receive an £80,000 bill for the care of his dying 93-year-old mother.

John Godfrey, 71, is facing court action by over end-of-life care given to , who died
in 2015.

He says the first he knew of the bill was when it arrived in the post earlier this year – four years after Beryl’s death.

The original bill was for but it has been accruing interest at a rate of £82 every week.

John, of in Kinross-shire, said: “We fought our best for mum for many years.

"Then, four years after she died, we get a letter from Perth and Kinross Council wanting £53,000 for my mum’s end-of-life care.

“How can they do this to us nearly four years after mum was laid to rest?”

A council spokesperson said: “There are ongoing legal proceedings in relation to this matter and it would be inappropriate for the council to comment.”
