Disabled man was humiliated and 'dangled like a puppet', causing his trousers to fall down

A man has been jailed for humiliating a disabled man in a mobility scooter in a pub by "dangling him like a puppet" and causing his trousers to fall down.

Sam Michael O'Reilly appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court charged with two offences.

He admitted assaulting a man by beating him at The Assembly, in East Street, Bedminster, on July 21 last year.

The court heard the 33-year-old humiliated a disabled man in a mobility scooter, dangled him like a puppet, caused his trousers to fall down and then left him on the ground.

O'Reilly, of Carlow Road, Knowle, also pleaded guilty to carrying a folding pocket knife in a public place, Donegal Road, on December 18 last year without good reason.

He carried the knife for protection which meant he was willing to use it.

Given the seriousness of the offences, O'Reilly was jailed for 26 weeks at a hearing in Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 28.

He must pay £500.
