Disabled homeless woman severely beaten in downtown attack

SAN DIEGO _ A homeless woman was hospitalized with severe assault injuries Friday night, and homicide detectives are asking for the public's help to identify the man suspected of unleashing the attack.

A 911 caller reported the assault at 10:10 p.m. at Fourth Avenue and B Street downtown, San Diego police said. Officers found a 73-year-old disabled woman with significant trauma to her upper body. She was taken to a hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

Homicide detectives were called to investigate because of the severity of her injuries. Witnesses said a man was seen in an altercation with the victim, who is homeless and requires the use of a walker.

He was described as Black, in his 40s, about 6 feet tall and 250 pounds, wearing a white tank top and jeans. He was last seen walking east on C Street from the scene.
