Disabled great-gran begs to be rehoused by council after front door 'kicked in'

A disabled great-grandmother who 'doesn't feel safe' in her own home after her front door was kicked in has been waiting for five months to be rehoused by the council.

Ann Feriday, who has suffered three strokes in the past, lives alone in a one bedroom council house in Fegg Hayes.

The 61-year-old has stayed in the bungalow for 14 months, however now lives in constant fear after the incident, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.

Ann - who has 22 great-grandchildren - was told by the council that she had been put down on the housing list in January - only to later call for an update and find out that she had never been added.

Ann says she has been unable to get on Stoke-on-Trent City Council's housing list since. She says it has left her with 'no life'.

Ann said: "My door was kicked down in January. It was knocked off it's hinges. I called the police and locked myself in my bedroom.

"I've had three strokes, I have a stick, I'm disabled and very vulnerable. I don't feel safe since it happened.

"I called the council and they said I would be put on the waiting list to move house. But when nothing happened I enquired again and I was told that I hadn't been put on the list in the first place.

"I asked why and they said it wasn't enough reason to be moved from the property. I've heard nothing from them since and I'm still not on the list.

"I live here alone in a one bedroom bungalow and I don't feel safe here at all now. I don't go anywhere because I'm frightened for my own safety, I always think somebody is behind me.

"My mental health is really bad. I had a panic attack when they told me I wasn't on the list. I've not been eating and not sleeping. I just have the image of my door coming in again.

"I think the council have let me down very badly. I have no life.

"All I want to do is move somewhere safe and get on with my life somewhere that I'm not going to feel threatened or like someone is going to come for me."

StokeonTrentLive has approached Stoke-on-Trent City Council for a statement.
