Disabled Edinburgh man's car smashed as thieves steal his blue badge

An Edinburgh man has had to warn people to report it to the police if they are offered a blue disability badge after it was stolen from his car.

The man who has neurofibromatosis type 1 which causes him a lot of pain in his legs and affects his balance and ability to walk, told Edinburgh Live how a neighbour came to his door at 9 am on Monday to inform him that his car had been smashed.

The resident, who lives at Elgin Terrace in Edinburgh, was shocked to see that the blue badge that he used for parking had been snatched.

He is now warning locals to be vigilant and report it if anyone tried to sell them a blue badge.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the man said: "A neighbour came to my door at about 9 am to tell me the car had been broken into.

"I have spoken to a few people and nobody heard anything.

"As it took a long time to actually receive the badge after it was awarded, and I got a ticket while waiting for it. I could do without the long wait again.

"I have neurofibromatosis type 1, I get a lot of pain in my legs and find it hard to walk because of this and balance issues.

"I was having to park much further away than I'd like, often the walk to and from the car would because me a lot of pain, or I would pay to park but I can't afford that."
