Putting yourself "out there" on the internet comes with one huge risk - other people.
Trolls in particular delight in tearing others down for no good reason bar their own cruel entertainment.
But when US blogger Melissa Blake recently found herself attacked, she came out fighting.
Melissa, 38, is disabled and writes a blog called So About What I Said , which has attracted vile comments about her appearance, and she revealed that trolls had told her last month that she "should be banned from posting selfies because I'm too ugly."
Born with the genetic bone and muscular condition Freeman-Sheldon Syndrome, Melissa has undergone 26 operations - but she refuses to let her disability define her.

After posting photos of herself and being compared to a "blob fish" Melissa hit back in an emotive thread on Twitter - and added three bonus selfies.
"During the last round of trollgate, people said that I should be banned from posting photos of myself because I'm too ugly. So I'd just like to commemorate the occasion with these 3 selfies.
"[...] I'm getting so tired of people (read: men) thinking it's OK to insult a woman's appearance. Yes, my disability makes me different. Trust me, I know that. I've known that my entire life.

"And people wonder why I've struggled so much with self-acceptance when it comes to how I look and our society's notion of what 'beautiful' is. It's because of comments like these - comments that dismiss me and deem me unworthy.
"This is just one more example of the type if ableism that people with disabilities face every day and it's something I'm constantly trying to change."
Melissa's words struck chord with social media users and fans.

"People who decide to be trolls disgust me. I love the positivity this tweet is getting and it's truly deserved! Ignore the trolls, they have no purpose in society."
There were also calls to get her a slot on the Ellen show, with another supporter adding: "You should interview this amazing woman @TheEllenShow".
Ellen, the ball is in your court.
