Disability support gateway launched

A national referral and support system has been launched for people with disability. (AAP)

Australians living with a disability are being encouraged to use a new, national gateway aimed at connecting them with trusted information and services.

The National Disability Gateway, launched this week, consists of an accessible website and a 1800 phone line staffed by people with experience in supporting Australians with disability.

The tool is a one-stop-shop for information and services on employment, health, housing, transport and more, federal Minister for Social Services Anne Ruston said.

"The disability community is very diverse and finding information about policies, programs and support available for individuals can be a challenge," she said in a statement.

"The Disability Gateway is fast, easy to use and offers a range of accessible features for people with disability including an Easy Read toggle on every page."

Through an ad campaign which began on Sunday, the Morrison government is encourage Australians living with a disability make use of the tool.

It is available at www.disabilitygateway.gov.au or by calling 1800 643 787 Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm AEST.
