Liverpool’s transfer deadline arrivals Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak are receiving a “once in a lifetime” opportunity, according to Dirk Kuyt.
The Reds completed a £500,000 deal for Preston centre-back Davies earlier before confirming Kabak 's arrival in a £1million loan move at 10pm.
Liverpool have moved late in the January transfer window to strengthen their central defence, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Fabinho and Joel Matip all currently out injured.
Davies , 25, is viewed as one of the best defenders in the Championship and has joined on a long-term deal for a fee that could rise to as much as £1.6m.
Meanwhile, Kabak , 20, will be signed from Schalke on a loan deal with an option to buy for £18m in the summer.
Former Liverpool forward Kuyt believes that both players are being handed brilliant opportunities to join the defending Premier League champions which would not come to them under normal circumstances.
"For both of them this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We all know normally Jurgen Klopp wouldn't sign these sorts of players but because of the injuries these kinds of players can have a chance," Kuyt told Sky Sports.
"We have seen in the past that Jurgen Klopp doesn't hesitate to try these kinds of young players.
"Davies is 25 and he's played a couple of seasons in the Championship now. We will see what he can bring to the team. In football everything is possible."
Nat Phillips has filled in admirably alongside Jordan Henderson in central defence, with the duo keeping a clean sheet in Sunday evening’s 3-1 win over West Ham, while Rhys Williams has also impressed when he has featured.
The inexperienced duo have been pushed into the spotlight due to the Reds’ injury problems and Kuyt thinks their situation is reflective of Liverpool’s approach to young players.
"If you look at the philosophy of Liverpool football club, they don't bring in so many players and they look to give the academy players an opportunity,” he added.
"I was not expecting a big transfer unless there were big injuries. I can understand why Jurgen is bringing in these two players on loan hopefully with a potential buy."
