Director swaps 30-year construction career after sealing Derby recruitment firm deal

The Derby branch of a recruitment firm which specialises in supplying staff to the road transport and logistics industries is under new ownership.

Darren Hooley, who most recently worked as construction director at Halesowen-based Metstructures, has bought the Derby franchise of Driver Hire.

Driver Hire has a network of more than 100 offices across the UK, providing temporary and permanent drivers and other logistics staff to businesses and organisations.

The firm also helps when customers need extra staff to deal with holidays, illness or business expansion.

Mr Hooley, of Ashbourne, has 30 years’ experience working in the construction industry at both managerial and director level.

Explaining his decision to take on the Driver Hire Derby franchise, he said: “I was working away a lot and missed my family. I was also working long hours and decided that I’d prefer to work hard for myself and profit directly from my efforts.

“I researched several franchising opportunities before settling on Driver Hire. Moving from construction to recruitment isn’t totally random.

“In two of my previous jobs, I’ve been responsible for transport, working with driver recruitment agencies.

“That’s given me a good insight into what makes a good recruitment business. I’m really looking forward to meeting the recruitment needs of a wide range of businesses here in Derby.”

Graham Duckworth, franchise sales director at Driver Hire, said: “I’m delighted that Darren has joined the Driver Hire network.

“He has been a model professional throughout the negotiation process and is an excellent addition to our nationwide network.

“His enthusiasm and drive will ensure he’s able to capitalise on the many opportunities to grow the business in Derby and be a highly successful franchisee.”
