Director Spike Lee backs wild conspiracy theory that 9/11 wasn't a terror attack

Movie director Spike Lee has admitted that he believes a wild 9/11 conspiracy theory.

The 64-year-old filmmaker is convinced that the World Trade Center was brought down by a controlled demolition and not a terror attack.

The Malcom X creator discussed his new eight-hour documentary series 'New York Epicenters: 9/11 - 2021 ½' in a recent interview with the New York Times, where he shared his thoughts on the wild conspiracy theory.

Lee’s four-part installment focuses on New Yorkers and their reactions to the 9/11 terror attacks, but he’s also roped in the opinions of several members of the conspiracy group Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.

The controversial group has falsely suggested the United States government was involved with the collapse of the World Trade Center in September 2001.

When asked about his reasoning for including the views of the controversial group, Lee admitted that he had questions that needed to be answered.

“I mean I got questions, and I hope that maybe the legacy of this documentary is that Congress holds a hearing, a congressional hearing, about 9/11,” he told.

The Hollywood director went on to question the official explanation for the downfall of the World Trade Centre as he claimed the way the iconic buildings fell was similar to the way buildings collapsed after demolition.

Lee shared: “The amount of heat that it takes to make steel melt, that temperatures not reached.

“And then the juxtaposition of the way Building 7 fell to the ground - when you put it next to other building collapses that were demolitions, it's like you're looking at the same thing.

“But people are going to make up their own mind,” he continued.

Following Lee’s controversial interview with New York Times, fans have hit out at the director’s ‘incredible stupidity’ surrounding the sensitive topic.

“Thousands of innocent people lost their lives when they were just going about their days. Going to work, to school, grabbing a coffee – and this EDUCATED man has the incredible stupidity to claim it was all a ploy from the government. Cancel him now,” fumed one horrified Twitter user.

“His claims are actually ridiculous. I’m embarrassed I was ever a fan of his,” someone else shared.

Meanwhile, a third raged: “You’ll never see me supporting a Spike Lee movie again. His thoughts on 9/11 have completely disgusted me to my core.”
