Dion McGhee transfer chase as Rangers among 3 'frontrunners' for former Manchester United midfielder

Wanted Dion McGhee has narrowed down his next move to three potential clubs - according to a report.

The Manchester Evening News suggest the former Manchester United midfielder will join either AZ Alkmaar, West Ham or Rangers after his contract expired at Old Trafford.

United put an offer to him so a development fee will be due - although Rangers would be able to snap him up for a much cheaper fee than the Hammers.

There is also understood to be interest from France and Portugal but McGhee has his eyes fixed on a trio of options for his next career move.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be familiar with the player from his days as Liverpool U18 boss. Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson has already landed one Premier League rising star in Calvin Bassey from Leicester.

McGhee issued a poignant farewell message after saying goodbye to Old Trafford after coming through the club's youth ranks.

He said: “Since the age of 6, all I’ve known is Manchester United.

“I’ve gone through the youth ranks and learned a lot wishing the academy.

“I would like to stay a massive thank you to everyone at Manchester United Football Club, staff, players, coaches, managers & the fans who have helped and influenced me to become the player I am today.

“I’m excited at the new opportunities coming up and I’m ready for the next challenge. Thank you all! Once a red, always a red.”
