Diogo Jota sets Liverpool record as striker heads home against Leicester

Diogo Jota has set a Liverpool club record with his goal against Leicester at Anfield.

The summer signing has been in prolific form since joining from Wolves for north of £40m.

His header against the Foxes means he has now notched in his first four home league games - the first man to do so.

The Portuguese forward scored after appearing from the bench against Arsenal back in September in what was his first league outing for the Reds.

He followed that up by scoring in a 2-1 win over Sheffield United shortly after.

And then, during a second-half cameo, bagged the winner against West Ham.

In between that Jota has bagged himself four goals in the Champions League which includes a hat-trick as Jurgen Klopp's side beat Atalanta in Italy.

It means the 23-year-old has scored eight times in all competitions making him the team's second topscorer behind Mohamed Salah.

His exploits in front of goal have also seen calls for him to replace Roberto Firmino in the starting XI.

Klopp resisted those calls but played with a four-pronged attack as Liverpool drew with Manchester City before the international break.

Jota though has remained calm when it comes to his role and insists he will do what the team requires.

He said previously: "It’s a team. The manager chooses the 11, we need to do our job."

While Klopp has reiterated Firmino's quality despite his lack of goals thus far.

The German said: “He was in so many games the difference-maker without scoring maybe, I’m not sure.

"But with scoring as well in other games, so I would feel really embarrassed if I had to mention now the qualities of Bobby Firmino.
