Diogo Jota set for return as Liverpool pre-season training ramps up

Diogo Jota is set to become the latest player to join the Reds in pre-season training.

The forward will report for duty in Austria on Wednesday where he will link up with his teammates as Liverpool prepare for the start of the new season.

Jota joins Jurgen Klopp's 34-man squad after international duty for Portugal at Euro 2020.

The Portuguese international recorded one goal and one assist before A Selecao suffered defeat to Belgium in the round of 16.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a debut season for Liverpool and will look to better it this year.

Despite a stop-and-start season, when Jota was on the pitch he delivered in front of goal more frequently than any of the club's other options.

With a Euro campaign that was not too overly-exerting behind him, Jota is in fine form to cement his place in the squad.

He follows Neco Williams and Harry Wilson, who joined the squad earlier this week after representing Wales at the European Championship.

Both Williams and Wilson have been linked to moves away from Anfield this summer in search of first team football.

However, pre-season could represent a potential final audition for the pair as they look to force their way into Klopp's plans for the upcoming campaign, especially in the absence of some big first team names.

There are many key men who are yet to join the party. The Reds’ representatives at the recent Copa America and European Championships – four of whom reached the final of their respective competitions – are still enjoying their summer break.

Captain Jordan Henderson, along with Brazilian trio Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino, all have two weeks left of their post-season holidays, and Thiago Alcantara and Xherdan Shaqiri have also yet to link up with the Reds.

However, Andy Robertson was the first out of the Reds to see his international duty end but has yet to join the Liverpool squad under the Alps.

The left-back has been granted a longer time off than his fellow internationals after a gruelling campaign for club and country and is enjoying a holiday with his family.
