Diogo Jota sends warning to Chelsea after Liverpool thrash Southampton

Diogo Jota has issued a rallying cry to ‘keep going’ after Liverpool destroyed Southampton 4-0 on Saturday.

The Reds closed the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea to a point thanks to the emphatic victory.

Liverpool were 3-0 up at half-time through a brace from Jota and a second goal in a week from Thiago after he also netted in the Champions League win over Porto.

Virgil van Dijk added a fourth shortly after the break to wrap up a very comfortable afternoon at Anfield for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Chelsea will re-establish a four-point lead over the Reds if they beat Manchester United on Sunday.

However, Jota has urged his team-mates to keep their momentum going after they recorded a third consecutive win in all competitions.

“I take advantage of playing for a good team,” Jota told Sky Sports. “Fortunately for me I can score goals and hopefully keep doing it.

“Even with the changes we make from the Champions League it is important to have everyone on board. This month it is a game every three days. We just need to keep going.”

The Portugal star was delighted with his side’s performance after they repeated their superb 4-0 success over Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend.

Jota added: “In the end it is a good game for us. We adapted well to their three at the back. They changed again in the second half. We took advantage.

“There were spaces in the first half. A clean sheet, too, so a good performance.

“It is always easier when you start well with a goal at home. We knew in the past we have been 2-0 up and not won the game, but we did today and that is important. The most important thing is that we won.”

Next up for Liverpool is a trip across Stanley Park to face Merseyside rivals Everton on Wednesday.
