Diogo Jota sends Chelsea early warning ahead of AFCON as Man City give Tuchel a headache

Top of the table, but now only one point ahead.

I pray that I do not have to eat my words!

Chelsea faced Manchester United over the weekend, meaning they've now faced all of the expected title challengers. After playing Liverpool, Manchester City and United, Chelsea has only picked up two points.

To win the League we will need to collect three points from one of these teams in the next calendar year - It’s absolutely imperative. This weekend we witnessed a strengthened Liverpool side, a formidable City team and a stubborn United.

It wasn’t the best weekend for the Blues but we have to keep our enemies close. Let’s find out how they did...

Liverpool hosted Southampton and rendered them to a 4-0 defeat. Of course, it was a big result for the Reds but Mohamed Salah didn’t get a slice of the pie.

So much for my fantasy football points!

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James have constantly been in competition amongst the fan bases. Every time James has a great game, Alexander-Arnold says “hold my beer” and vice versa. It’s insane the level of quality that both right-backs have produced this season so far.

All it took was a pinpoint corner into the box for Trent to register an assist for Virgil van Dijk.

Despite James having a good game this weekend, Trent won the battle. But the war is not over!

Scoring twice for the Reds, Diogo Jota seems to be in top form, with four goals in the last five Premier League matches. The Portuguese is showing Salah and Sadio Mane may not be missed that much by the time the African Cup of Nations comes around in January.

They have scary firepower, while Chelsea struggle to finish their chances in front of goal.

Whilst the Blues wait for their star striker Romelu Lukaku to come back into full form, Manchester City are doing what they do best without a target man.

I am hardly shocked.

Now sitting just one point behind the Blues, the Cityzens have had quite a run. Four wins in their last five matches have helped them climb their way up the table.

A shock loss to Conor Gallagher’s Crystal Palace is the sole reason why City has not overtaken Chelsea.

I do stand by the fact that City may need to look into signing a striker in January to get them over the line; they are one striker away from Premier League dominance.

West Ham traveled to a snowy Manchester and put up quite the fight. Starting off the weekend in a top-four position, the Hammers were tasked with stopping the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.

A scary front three on paper for City, however, despite the chances created between them, they all failed to get on the scoresheet.

Sort of sounds like Chelsea.

Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho had to carry City to victory, while Manuel Lanzini’s efforts led to nothing more than a consolation goal.

I am still not threatened by our league rivals. I could be worried that Chelsea may be dropping off, but that would be awfully reactionary.

We played a well-structured Manchester United side. Despite Michael Carrick’s words after the match, indicating that the Red Devils came to win, they were compact in defence and focused less on their attack.

We were the better side, but struggled to break the lines and bury our chances.

A bad day at the office for the Blues, but it could have been worse. We go again against Watford.
