Diogo Jota's message to former team mate Rui Patricio after Liverpool's win over Wolves

Diogo Jota has sent a message to his former team mate Rui Patricio, who suffered a serious head injury during Liverpool’s win over Wolves.

Jota scored the only goal of the game in first-half stoppage time to lift the Reds up to sixth place in the Premier League table.

While Liverpool will be happy with the result, thoughts will be with Patricio after requiring treatment for more than 10 minutes before being stretchered off.

Jota was at Wolves for three years, and played alongside Patricio for two of those, and sent a message to his former team mate shortly after the final whistle.

“Life is more important,” said Jota, speaking to Sky Sports. “I hope that it’s nothing too serious, and I wish him a speedy recovery.”

It was a special game for Jota personally, too, returning to the home of his former club for the first time.

The Portuguese international left Molineux to move to Anfield last summer, and this was his first appearance against his old club and his first return to his former home.

“I was here for over three years, working every day with almost everyone in that dressing room,” said Jota.

“It was special, I just wish the fans could be here as well. A good result for us and for me.”
