Diogo Jota is ready to hand Liverpool a major boost by returning to first-team training this week.
Jota has been absent since suffering a knee injury towards the end of the Champions League dead rubber at FC Midtjylland on December 9.
While no surgery was required, the 24-year-old spent part of his rehabilitation with his knee in a brace before he began working at Kirkby on individual fitness earlier this month.
And now Jota is hoping to resume full training with the rest of the squad during Wednesday's session.
Although his return is almost certain too late for the Portuguese to be considered for Sunday's Premier League trip to Sheffield United, it is a major boost for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp with his side floundering in mid-table having fallen off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification.
A more likely comeback would be the game the following Thursday at home to fifth-placed Chelsea.
Jota made a major impression following his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers for an initial £41million, scoring nine goals in 17 appearances.
The Reds have won only six of 17 games during the forward's absence having won 10 with the Portugal international in the team.
