Diogo Jota provides Liverpool injury update and sends 'big influence' message to Jurgen Klopp

Diogo Jota is "doing well" in his recovery from a difficult knee injury suffered while playing for Liverpool in the Champions League last month.

The Portugal international hit the ground running after arriving at Anfield in the summer transfer window, scoring nine goals in 17 appearances - at a ratio of one every 95 minutes, including two crucial late winners and a Champions League hat-trick.

Jota's sensational progress, though, was frustratingly halted when he was hurt against FC Midtjylland.

Initially, the 24-year-old was ruled out for two months but he's progressing well and could be back sooner than expected.

"Knee injuries are always complicated so we cannot rush things," Jota said.

"But I am doing well and I will be back on the field as soon as possible. When I'm fit I know I'll give my best in each training session to give myself a chance of playing."

Jota proved something of a surprise after his £41million transfer from Wolves, slotting in seamlessly next to the phenomenal triumvirate of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

And he's now sent a message to Liverpool fans over wanting to become "a big influence" at the club and stay in the team for as long as he can.

He told the Press Association: "In Portugal they used to say the hardest thing is not to arrive but to stay there. So that of course is my target.

"Now that I have achieved a move to Liverpool I want to be a big influence in this club and that's what I try to do every day."
