Diogo Jota prediction made as Liverpool forward is sent Mohamed Salah reminder

Diogo Jota is well capable of filling the boots of Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane should either of them leave Liverpool. That is the opinion of former Manchester United man Patrice Evra.

Jota has made a flying start to his career at Anfield after arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese forward has scored eight goals in 12 appearances - and was on target in Liverpool's emphatic 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday.

He started in place of the absent Salah, alongside Mane and Roberto Firmino - and impressed once again for Jurgen Klopp's side.

When he headed in Andy Robertson's cross from the left, it rounded off a superb 30-pass move.

Jota has already shown his versatility and value to the reigning champions - and Sky Sports pundit Evra was certainly impressed.

“It’s about the Liverpool squad," said the Frenchman. "Normally Salah would play instead of him (Jota), but for Klopp, he’s so important - to know when it’s not Salah, it’s Diogo Jota.

"Maybe for the future, it can happen when maybe Salah or Mane leave Liverpool, but what a great player. What a great goal.”

Fellow pundit Freddie Ljungberg added: “I always liked him when he was at Wolves. The front three they have are tremendous, but you need other players and to have someone of that quality to fill in and do what he’s doing.

"It’s worth gold and that’s how you win medals. You press each other, that’s the whole point. In a winning team, you should never feel comfortable.”
