Diogo Jota injury boost for Liverpool as two other stars near return

Diogo Jota is in contention to return to the Liverpool squad for Sunday's visit to Sheffield United, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

But the German is uncertain whether Fabinho and James Milner can make it a triple injury boost for the Reds, with the pair only ready to resume training on Saturday.

He also could not confirm if goalkeeper Alisson Becker will feature in Yorkshire after personal bereavement.

Jota has been out since a prolific start to his Liverpool career was ended by a knee injury suffered uring a mid-December visit to Midtjylland in the Champions League.

On the Portuguese, Klopp said: "Diogo trained now twice with the team, looks very good, very good, but it he was a long time out so we have to see what we can do with that.

"In training he looks really promising."

A muscle injury has left Fabinho sidelined since the defeat at Leicester City earlier this month, a game that saw James Milner depart the field early due to a hamstring issue.

But the midfield duo are closing in on a comeback, with Klopp adding: "Fab was not yet with the team, that can happen I think tomorrow, his first session with the team.

"And the same for James Milner."

As for Alisson, whose father passed away in tragic circumstances earlier this week, Klopp insisted no decision has yet been made.

"We didn't think about that so far, really," he said.

Liverpool have, of course, been hit with another injury setback this week after it was revealed that Jordan Henderson has undergone surgery on his groin.

Asked whether his captain is facing a particularly lengthy spell out, Klopp replied: "The best-case scenario, I don't know.

"It's not a quick one but, of course, we all hope that there is still a possibility for him to play a few games this season. We will see."
