Diogo Jota injury boost as Liverpool star takes step forward in training

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has been pictured stepping up his comeback from injury at the club’s AXA Training Centre.

After completing a £41million transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers in September, the Portugal international made an explosive start to his Reds career, netting nine goals in 17 games.

However, he suffered a knee injury playing in the Champions League dead rubber at Midtjylland on December 9.

Jota managed to avoid having surgery on his leg.

But he has been undergoing a strict rehabilitation programme to get back to full fitness.

These latest photographs provide encouragement though that the 24-year-old remains on schedule with a possible return date pencilled in for later this month.

The club have indicated Jota is "making good progress on the road to full fitness".

And they added today: "Under the guidance of club physio Chris Morgan, the 24-year-old undertook some gym work before taking to the outdoor pitches for some running drills."

As well as ball work outdoors on a pitch, Jota is shown at the club’s new £50million training base in Kirkby jumping, handling a medicine ball and carrying out various different exercises as he looks to sharpen his movement.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s 1-0 home defeat to Burnley on January 21, manager Jurgen Klopp said of Jota: “Diogo is a few weeks away.

"Will not be next one or two. He needs time.

“How much I miss him is not important. I am not allowed to miss him. He is not there and we deal with it.”
