Diogo Jota can reignite Liverpool evolution as Ozan Kabak causes training ground stir

Here is your Liverpool morning digest on Sunday, February 7.

What Jota's injury return means for Klopp

Liverpool made two big moves in the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp tried to take the next step with his title-winning side.

Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota both arrived from Bayern Munich and Wolves, respectively, but the duo have spent just 12 minutes on the pitch together.

Injuries have riddled the pair since their arrivals to Anfield and Klopp hasn't been able to see his new signings combining.

However, with Jota's arrival edging closer, this may not be a problem for the Reds for much longer.

Speaking on the Analysing Anfield podcast, David Hughes said: "We were banging the drum during the summer for Liverpool starting to see a bit of evolution to the side because it has been the same for two or three years.

"Thiago was some of that evolution - a player who can progress through the lines with short, precise passing - but he has not been able to play many games, and Liverpool have been setting up largely how they used to.

"We know teams historically in football tend to create a winning formula, benefit from it, and then opponents catch up.

"So you have to evolve and Liverpool just have not been able to do that so far this season, which is why they have not been able to repeat what they did in the last two years.

"The injuries are massively upsetting things.

"That was something big for Liverpool to evolve - that front line had to go from three to four because you need cover and you need someone clinical.

"Jota has been perfect and he came in on a hot streak - he probably wasn’t going to sustain that - but he has proven himself as a clinical forward."

Kabak bamboozles Alexander-Arnold

A new clip released from a Liverpool training session would suggest that new signing Ozan Kabak is settling in very well with his new team-mates.

Kabak was brought in on a loan contract from Schalke on transfer deadline day, as the Reds made two new centre-back signings.

The Turkey international is now waiting for his debut for the champions and could feature in this afternoon's showdown with Manchester City at Anfield.

The 20-year-old has now caught the eye of Liverpool supporters after a clip was released of a training session.

Kabak can be seen cheekily nutmegging Trent Alexander-Arnold during a passing drill, where the right-back is trying to get the ball from his new colleague.

Alexander-Arnold looks annoyed, understandably, but Jordan Henderson clearly loved it, while Sadio Mane asked for the video to be shown to "the whole world".

Kabak, very smoothly, smiles and then points a finger in the direction of the camera.

Liverpool supporters reacted to the clip after it was posted on Reddit, with one saying: "Kid means business. No prisoners from day one."

Another said: "I see something special in him. He exudes confidence. We got a live one here."

Meanwhile, a third fan added: "Never had Turkish delight with a pinch of nutmeg before."
