Diogo Dalot sets target as Manchester United eye new signing

Diogo Dalot is targeting regular playing time in the new season as he fights for his future at Manchester United.

The Portuguese defender spent last season on loan with AC Milan but has returned to Old Trafford as United contemplate signing a new right-back this summer.

Dalot, 22, could end up with a back-up role if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unable to sign a new full-back, namely Kieran Trippier, before the end of the transfer window and he knows consistent playing time will be crucial in his development plan.

“Keep developing,” Dalot told club media when asked for his target for the upcoming season. “When I had a season like last season obviously the things start to get more demanding as well.

“I want to keep playing, I want to keep giving everything I have and improve. I know last season was fantastic but I can do even more.”

AC Milan offered to re-sign the right-back on another season-long loan in June but United want to keep Dalot until they make a definitive decision on their plans at full-back.

United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier, while left-back Alex Telles is currently out with an ankle injury and Brandon Williams is expected to head out on a season-long loan.

Dalot still enjoys a warm rapport with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who could keep the Portuguese if a move for Trippier fails to materialise.
