Diogo Dalot reveals what Manchester United dressing room say about club trophy drought

Diogo Dalot has revealed Manchester United's players talk about getting the club 'back on top' and 'fighting for trophies'.

There has been a lack of silverware won at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and the club is currently enduring a trophy drought, as Jose Mourinho was the last manager to win a trophy at Old Trafford in 2017 when winning the Europa League.

United are currently suffering their worst trophy drought for over 40 years and Erik ten Hag has the challenge of putting an end to that barren run, which has angered supporters and seen regular protests against the club's owners, the Glazers.

The season is beyond the halfway stage and United remain in every competition, while Ten Hag has also taken each competition seriously with his team selections, like against Everton at Old Trafford in the third round of FA Cup on Friday.

United defeated Everon 3-1 in that game and Dalot reflected on what that result meant after the win. The right-back was asked about the club's trophy drought in the interview and he admitted the players have to be hungry to win something.

"We know it's a tough journey to go to Wembley, so we want to go step by step, game by game and today we had a tough challenge, but I think we did what we had to do and we went through [to next round]," Dalot told beIN Sports.

"It's our goal to reach finals, to play for tournaments, to win trophies. I think we're making progress and today was one step further for us in this competition. We play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and we have to be hungry for that [end trophy drought].

"We are completely focused on winning trophies because this is what this club is about, it has to become an obsession for us. I think the fans deserve a trophy, it's been a long time without seeing it and I think for us players we have a good chance this season.

"We used to say we have a good chance to put Manchester United back on top and fighting for trophies - we want to do that."
