Diogo Dalot outlines Manchester United Europa League ambition

Diogo Dalot has outlined his desire to win the Europa League with Manchester United this season.

United begin their campaign in the competition later this week as they enter the group stages for the first time since they lifted the trophy under Jose Mourinho three years ago.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side kick start the tournament when they host Astana at Old Trafford on Thursday night and Dalot is eager to get off to a winning start.

Portuguese full back Dalot knows that the aim is to return to the Champions League at any cost this season, and winning the Europa League would secure them a place in the group stages for next year.

"It’s a big competition, but not as big for this club," Dalot told the  United App.

"This club needs to be in the Champions League every day, every year, winning the Champions League and in Portugal it’s a little but different.

"Of course it’s a big competition that if any team wins it’ll be a great achievement, but for this club when we are in it we just need to win it."

Speaking during the pre-season tour United manager Solskjaer also reiterated his ambitions for the Europa League this season.

“We see the Europa League as both a good chance to play youngsters, but also to win a trophy," Solskjaer said in Singapore. "We are going to go all out to try to win it, of course.”
