Diogo Dalot explains his Manchester United goal celebration

Diogo Dalot says his celebration for his first Manchester United goal was one of sheer passion following an injury-stricken start to his life at the club.

The Portuguese defender joined United back in the summer of 2018 but has yet to have a prolonged spell in the first-team under either Jose Mourinho or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dalot netted his first goal for the club during their 6-0 thrashing of Tranmere in the FA Cup back in January, and has revealed why his celebration meant so much to him.

“It was unbelievable. It was like a release of some frustration, as well,” Dalot told the United podcast.

“It's been a tough one-and-a-half years here, because of the injuries, and it was a big fight for me since I came.

“That moment was a moment to be proud, as well, because scoring goals is always unbelievable and I didn't score for one or two years, so it was a very good moment.”

The goal marked Dalot's first strike in a game since he netted for Porto B back in 2018, and he has explained why he turned and punched the air with such joy despite scoring against League One opposition.

He added: “Oh, it was genuine. It was something I didn't think about.

“When you're showering before the game you imagine scoring goals and you imagine how you're going to celebrate but that moment you just don't think.”
