Diogo Dalot discusses Manchester United intentions amid Roma transfer speculation

Diogo Dalot says his attitude while watching on from the sidelines for much of the season has helped him thrive on his return to the starting XI.

The Portuguese full-back has struggled to oust Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the right-back position but a hand injury forced the Englishman out of the win over Arsenal before Ralf Rangnick named an unchanged side to face Crystal Palace.

He had managed just four league appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer which led to speculation linking him away from Old Trafford, but he has now enjoyed back-to-back Premier League starts.

Jose Mourinho, who brought him to Manchester, was reportedly looking to reunite with his Portuguese compatriot at AS Roma with the Manchester Evening News reporting last month that he would only be allowed to leave United should the Reds acquire Kieran Trippier next month.

Nonetheless, in Wan-Bissaka's absence, Dalot has shown little weaknesses as the Reds to notched up successive wins for just the second time this season.

"It's what I'm here for. It’s not easy when you're outside [the starting XI] and you don't play as much, but it's our job to keep ready and I think I was doing a fantastic job outside the pitch being ready," Dalot told Manchester United's official website.

"When the opportunity comes, I now feel I need to keep going and give everything when I'm on the pitch too."

Fred scored the only goal of the game against Crystal Palace on Sunday sending the Reds to within three points of West Ham in fourth after the Hammers dealt a blow to Chelsea's title hopes.

Young Boys travel to Old Trafford this week in the final Champions League group stage match with Dalot looking to continue his spell in the starting XI.
