Dinosaurs roar into Manchester for Jurassic Live event this weekend

Dinosaurs will be roaring back to life in Manchester - as the family-friendly Jurassic Live tour starts in the city at the weekend. The new show, featuring award-winning animatronic and realistic dinosaurs, takes over the Opera House on Saturday and Sunday before heading out on tour across the UK.

Families heading along can expect a 90-minute full stage production which will feature professional puppeteers and what promise to be "mind-blowing special effects".

Set to be an "educational and fun show", Jurassic Live features an array of terrifying lizards from the Mesozoic era. It includes what is billed as the UK’s only flying Pterodactyl alongside a Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus and Apatosaurus, the UK's biggest Tyrannosaurus Rex and the UK'S most realistic Triceratops and Velociraptor.

If that sounds a little bit scary then don't worry - we are told the show also features "singing and dancing". Whether that's from the T-Rex or the dino rangers, we will have to wait and see.

Organisers of the tour say that brand new for this year will be a "bigger and better storyline" with more interactivity between the rangers, dinos and the audience. We can also expect some brand new dinosaurs in the mix.

The show is aimed at a family audience and is suitable for people aged two and over. Although be warned it does feature scenes using dart guns and scenes where rangers’ lives are "in danger" in storylines in the show.

It also features the use of CO2 effects, haze, flames, strobes and fog throughout the performance. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and parents are advised that some scenes may be intense for younger children.

After Manchester, the tour heads to theatres and arenas across the UK this year including Sunderland, Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Bournemouth, Lancaster, York, Liverpool, Blackpool and to the West End.

Tickets are priced from £21.65 and are available for the shows on Saturday and Sunday at 12noon and 5pm sittings. Best availability currently is for the Sunday shows.
