Dinosaur show a hit

Visitors are flocking to a night dinosaur display with light and sound effects in Khon Kaen's Wiang Kao district.

The exhibition, which began on Aug 11, is at the Phu Wiang Fossil Research Centre and Dinosaur Museum. The display includes real fossils of four types of dinosaur which once roamed the area. About 300 visitors passed through the doors on Tuesday, the official opening.

The four dinosaurs on display are Phuwiangosaurus Sirindhornae, Siamotyrannus Isanensis, Siamosaurus Suteethorni and Kinnareemimus khonkaenensis, Tawsaporn Nuchanong, director-general of the Department of Mineral Resources, said.

The first fossils of Phuwiangosaurus Sirindhornae ever found were uncovered about 40 years ago in Khon Kaen district. The dinosaur night display is part of the 2nd Khon Kaen Geopark Festival. It continues until Aug 25.

"We have signed the Phu Wiang declaration under which 19 agencies cooperate to develop the Wiang Kao valley and the research centre as a future world geopark, Mr Tawsaporn said. The exhibition is open every day until 9.30pm. Entry is free.
