Dinos Mavropanos is set to return to Arsenal.
The central defender's loan spell at Bundesliga side Stuttgart officially comes to an end this weekend when the 2020/21 season in the top-flight of German football finishes.
When fit, Mavropanos has been a regular under Pellegrino Matarazzo this season as he's made 22 appearances across all competitions, pitting his wits against the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.
Overall, the loan spell has been a success with Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat, who just so happens to be Arsenal's former head of recruitment, claiming the 23-year-old is among the best in his position in the Bundesliga.
"He has all the hardware and all the software to be a great defender," Mislintat said in an interview with The Athletic. "He has been unfortunate, he’s got a lot of injuries. A pubic bone inflammation kept him out more or less for one and a half years.
"A super guy, a model professional. You have to admire his energy, all the strength it took to get over his injuries. We’re super happy that he’s been a regular starter in recent weeks.
"We would like to keep him on loan one more season, if possible. But that will be down to Arsenal."
It remains to be seen if Mavropanos returns to Stuttgart for another loan spell next season, but he is already looking ahead to what could be his final appearance for the club.
Taking to social media before Saturday's home clash against Arminia Bielefeld, Mavropanos shared a simple nine-word message.
"Last game of the season ahead," he wrote on Instagram. "Let’s finish strong!"
As things stand Mavropanos is unlikely to be an Arsenal player next season.
football.london have recently revealed that Mikel Arteta has decided the Greek defender is not in his plans for next season either meaning he could leave on loan or a permanent transfer.
Mavropanos isn't the only Arsenal defender whose loan spell is coming to an end.
But unlike the Greece international, William Saliba - who has spent the second half of the campaign back in France with Nice - is set to get a chance to impress Arteta in pre-season.
"William is our player for sure and that's the decision we're going to be taking soon," Arteta said in his pre-Crystal Palace press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
"When we finish the season we will sit down and discuss the roles of every member in our squad and how they can fulfil that role.
"He's our player so he'll be back here for sure.
"After that, we will make a decision based on an agreement of the role each player is going to have in our squad."
