Dining across the blind date divide

I can’t be the only one who read about Nyree and Karl’s encounter in Dining Across the Divide (14 September) and felt a certain frisson between them suggesting they might have been more suited to Blind Date? Or noticed the room grow several degrees colder while Martha and Jack politely endured each other’s company in Blind Date (13 September) and wondered if they might have preferred to let rip at each other over politics instead? Time, maybe, for a crossover column – a bit like the series The Moment I Knew, but with starters and a wine list. Perhaps it could be called Dining Across the Blind Date Divide?

• My husband’s faux pas was even more embarrassing (‘Someone must know this guy’: four-year wedding crasher mystery solved, 12 September): he was the usher at the wrong church. He hotfooted across town in time to see the happy couple emerging from their church.

• It is a sad reflection on Britain that it needs a specific law to make public bodies tell the truth (Hillsborough law will mean serious wrongdoing is punished, says Lammy, 15 September).

• I expect I was not the only one to shed tears after reading Carol Ann Duffy’s poem (17 September). What an obscene world we live in.
