Diners left asking what's happening to Nottingham restaurant that hasn't opened for months

Fans of a Nottingham city centre restaurant have been left asking what is happening since it hasn't been open for months.

The Larder on Goosegate has been closed since June.

The Michelin-rated restaurant reopened on May 28 for the first time since the lockdown imposed in November 2020 but within days announced that operating at a reduced capacity to maintain social distancing had made it financially impracticable.

The restaurant, based within a Grade II listed building that once was home to Jesse Boot's first apothecary, is located on the first floor above charity shops in Goose Gate, Hockley.

Bernard Caille was amongst dining fans wondering if The Larder would be reopening.

He said: "The website seems down and there's no reply to emails. It would be a shame if it was to not reopen.

"I have used The Larder as a meeting point for catching up with friends, the food is always seasonal and punches way above its weight.

"The Larder team has always been very accommodating, and service is impeccable. Puddings are particularly good and memorable. So good that I have tried to recreate some of them."

The Larder, which opened in 2007, specialised in classic British and European dishes with a regularly changing menu, and afternoon tea.

Listed in celebrated food guides, Michelin, Harden's and the Good Food Guide, it had a reputation as one of Nottingham's best independent restaurants.

Goose rillettes with sorrel and smoked Bramley apple, lamb shank, and custard tart were the kind of dishes diners could look forward to.

Feedback was positive with one diner commenting: "The menu changes regularly, and is seasonal which I love. The dishes are all really innovative, the staff are great and it is exceptional value. Already looking forward to my next visit."

The last review on June 7, said: "We had a really lovely post-lockdown meal here and it did not disappoint! The starters (lamb scrumpet and pea bruschetta) were a fantastic way to start the meal and our mains were delicious.

"The sea bass skin was perfectly crisp and the accompaniments went with it perfectly. Although the steak looked small it was more than enough and full of flavour. The house red wine was affordable and delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly and made it a really enjoyable evening."

Since its initial message about shutting in June there has been no update either on social media or the entrance door to the restaurant.

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted the restaurant for a response but telephone calls and messages have gone unanswered.

The website is down and the last post on Facebook and Instagram, with a photo of a chocolate mousse dessert, was on June 10.

It comes after Turkish restaurant Antalya, in Forman Street, revealed it was closed due to "unforeseen circumstances" at the end of June and is still shut now.
