Diners evacuated from award-winning restaurant after flooding causes 'catastrophic damage'

Nutters restaurant in Rochdale has been forced to temporarily close after flooding caused 'catastrophic damage' to the building's power supply.

Diners were evacuated from the award-winning restaurant last night as Storm Francis lashed down.

Nutters, run by celebrity chef Andrew Nutter, is to shut until Friday for repairs to be carried out.

A message posted on the Norden restaurant's Facebook page said: "It is with great sadness we have to make the following announcement!

"No matter how hard we have tried - no matter how hard the team has worked the elements are now against us, just as we thought we had come through what has been an extremely difficult period.

"Last night due to severe flooding we had to make emergency calls to Greater Manchester Fire Brigade and Electricity Northwest resulting in full evacuation of the restaurant.

"Further inspections throughout the night has resulted in catastrophic damage to our main electricity boards.

"Ultimately resulting in us now having to once again close our doors today.

"Today and Thursday the next (48hrs) the restaurant will remain closed.

"Hopefully within this period the process will begin to clear out and once again make safe.

"We apologise to everyone this will effect over the next 48hrs and we hopefully will see you all again very soon."

Nutters has been affected by flooding on a number of occasions in the past.

In February it was forced to close after flooding again damaged the building's power supply, and in 2007 waiters in wellies s erved diners by candlelight after the bar and cellar flooded.
