A horrified diner found a cockroach at the bottom of his son’s bowl of food after he had finished eating at a restaurant in China.
Then when the unnamed man confronted staff at the restaurant in Xuzhou, in the eastern province of Jiangsu in China, the bowl was snatched away from him.
He was even dared to call the police if he really wanted to claim there was a cockroach in the meal, it is reported.
Footage of the cockroach in the bowl went viral on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, where people talked of their horror at the lack of hygiene.
The man had been dining out at the restaurant with his son when the incident occurred, reported Baidu.
Staff tried to get the man not to tell the police and instead he allegedly got in touch with the Chinese health department and food standards agency to report what happened.
It is reported that an agreement was made between the restaurant and the man where compensation of 165 Chinese yuan (£19) would be paid to the diner.
Chinese authorities said on November 4 that no case was brought forward by either of the two parties against the other and that no investigation was being carried out.
While there have been many stories of cockroaches crawling around in restaurants due to a lack of hygiene there are fewer where one had actually crawled into the food.
Also in China, a woman was left horrified after claiming she found 40 dead cockroaches in her takeaway meal, in 2019.
The disgusted resident of Shantou City in South China's Guangdong Province bought a braised duck dish for her dinner.
She was planning an evening of eating with her friends when the meal was sent to her door.
However, the table of diners were left shocked when one of them said they found a dead cockroach inside the food.
The woman claims that after the insect was removed, they began inspecting the duck dish more closely and found carcass after carcass of dead cockroaches inside.
In that case the restaurant offered an apology and it was reported that it was temporarily closed.
