Dine with the undead at new zombie zoo opening for Halloween just a short drive from Nottingham

Move over tigers, and lions, and bears (oh my!), the star attraction of the East Midlands' newest animal enclosure won't be spotted on a David Attenborough documentary any time soon.

Opening for the Halloween season is Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo, a terrifying new pop-up where brave visitors can come face-to-face with the undead and even dine in their company at the venue's 'unique cafe' before grabbing a souvenir at the gift shop.

Based on the weird and wonderful American road trip, tourist attractions such as the World's Biggest Ball of String, the zombie zoo is the newest addition to National Forest Adventure Farm's annual Screamfest celebrations.

Zombies are set to invade a popular visitors attraction near Burton this Halloween (National Forest Adventure Farm)

Located just outside Burton and only a 50 minute drive from Nottingham city centre, the zoo will include a zombie basketball game, complete with cheerleaders, a zombie wedding and even a zombie Santa sitting in his zombie grotto.

The night-time attraction opens on Thursday, October 10, and will run for 15 selected dates until Saturday, November 2. Visitors must be over 12 year of age and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Ivor Robinson, one of the two brothers who own National Forest Adventure Farm, says: “We’re always looking for ways to improve and update Screamfest, and give our customers something new and different to enjoy or endure.

"Our aim is to make Screamfest a great night out, filled with screams and laughter, and our new scare attraction, Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo, will be a brilliant addition.

“Our creative team has excelled itself this year and we love the whole concept; we know that fans of Screamfest will love it, too. I don’t want to give too much away about it, but be prepared: all is not what it seems when the lovable Hillbilly Joe takes you round his Zombee Zoo.”

Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo is one of five themed scare attractions at this year's Screamfest.

Fan favourites from previous years will also return: the nightmare-inducing Insomnia; clown-crazy Freak Out, heart-breaking Love Hurts, and maize maze Dia de los Muertos.

New for 2019, will be the addition of fairground rides, a sideshow and extreme performers as well as street theatre.

At the finale of the Halloween extravaganza on Saturday, November 2, there will also be a huge fireworks display for the first time.

Tickets are on sale now at screamfest.co.uk starting from £20.95 per person.
