Dina Asher-Smith targets sprint double as she leads Great Britain charge at the World Athletics Championships

Dina Asher-Smith will head up Britain’s medal hopes in the 72-strong squad selected for the World Athletics Championships in Doha later this month.

Asher-Smith, who won triple European sprint gold last summer, will again double up in the 100 and 200metres as well as spearhead Britain’s sprint relay ambitions.

Adam Gemili and Zharnel Hughes have also been selected to attempt the sprint double in Qatar with Britain bidding to defend their world title from London 2017 in the men’s 4x100m relay.

Other leading medal contenders include heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Laura Muir over the 1500m while Martyn Rooney has been selected to compete in his eighth World Championships as part of the 4x400m relay set-up.

Kyle Langford, meanwhile, maintains his 800m spot after a second complaint about his conduct reportedly threatened his inclusion.

Langford had previously been fined £1,000 for rowing with a track official in June

And he was then alleged to have had a post-race altercation with fellow athlete James McCarthy at the trials.

British Athletics performance director Neil Black said: “I truly believe we have deleted the strongest team possible to compete on the global stage.”
