Dina Asher-Smith clocks her fastest 200m of year in World Champs dress rehearsal

Dina Asher-Smith heads to the World Championships as the one to beat after running her fastest 200 metres of the year in Zurich.

Britain’s triple European champion again finished second to the brilliant Shaunae Miller-Uibo at the Diamond League final in Zurich, clocking 22.08 seconds to the Bahamian’s 21.74.

But Miller-Uibo, unbeaten for two years, is unable to race the 200m in Doha as it clashes with the 400m distance at which she is Olympic champion. Bizarrely, IAAF bosses declined to tweak the schedule to accommodate this magnificent athlete.

And with Asher-Smith running the third fastest 200m of her career to finish ahead of Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, she has now beaten all her Doha-bound rivals.

Adam Gemili and Zharnel Hughes clocked identical 10.15secs times in the men’s 100 metres, which in the absence of Christian Coleman - in hot water for missing three drugs tests - was won by Noah Lyles in 9.98secs.
