Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has expressed his surprise at the inclusion of Japhet Tanganga in the starting line-up for the clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The 20-year-old is set to make his first league appearance for Spurs, having only featured in the League Cup against Colchester United previously, with Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier on the bench.
Mourinho's decision was a huge surprise and caught Berbatov off guard as it was revealed by BeIN Sport host Carrie Brown that the former forward had not even heard of the young talent before.
However, Berbatov also made it clear he was a fan of the decision as he stated he always enjoys seeing new players given their opportunity to make an impression.
"Well, it is a surprise but at the same time, I like to see it when a manager puts the faith in a new player. Now he needs to take that chance and not disappoint his coach," he told BeIN Sports.
"It's a big game. I think that he is going to be a bit nervous, it depends on the player, but for sure I was surprised and let's hope it's going to be good."
