Dimitar Berbatov sends message to Jose Mourinho after Tanguy Ndombele training session

Dimitar Berbatov has admitted he was “not surprised” by Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho’s decision to hold a training session despite the social distancing rules in place.

Mourinho was pictured at Hadley Common in north London holding an informal training session with Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman was pictured working with Mourinho, while Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon pictured running together.

Mourinho has since admitted that his actions were not in line with government protocol, with the UK currently on lockdown to try and help combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Can Jose Mourinho turn Spurs around?

And Berbatov, speaking to Betfair, believes the move was another example of the the Spurs boss  “operating outside the box”.

“He did it because he is impatient for football to return and I understand that, but he’s broken the social distancing rules and that’s not good,” he said.

“Footballers and managers are in an influential position in society and they need to set an example to their fans in this very difficult situation.

“I can’t say I was particularly surprised by Mourinho’s behaviour.

"He has always operated outside the box and that’s one of the reasons he’s been successful and fans love him.

“But this is different. Hopefully, although it was a mistake to hold the session on the common, Mourinho and his players are still keeping a safe distance from each other.”
