Dimitar Berbatov's warning to Gareth Bale about picking Spurs return over Man Utd transfer

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov has said that Gareth Bale would be a good signing for Manchester United should he decide to return to the Premier League during the transfer window.

Speculation over the players' future has been rife for sometime, with his relationship with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane under question, with the Welshman in and out of the team at the Bernabeu last season.

Bale was linked with a summer return to Tottenham, the club he left in 2013 to join the Spanish giants, but Berbatov, who played for both Spurs and Manchester United, warned the forward over returning to his old stomping ground and suggested that Old Trafford could be a better option for the 30-year-old.

"Gareth Bale has apparently said that he wants to leave Real Madrid, it reminds me of a soap opera that has been on for so long, what episode are we on now? I want to leave, I want to stay, we don't want you, we want you, we love you, we will play you and s*** like that," Berbatov told Betfair.

"But it's not always good to go back to the place where you were before because you aren't going to be as good as you were before, there is some kind of curse with that.

Wenger: Pochettino needs to show he can give more to Tottenham

"Manchester United can benefit from his movement, his speed and he knows the Premier League so I think that would be a good move if it happens."

Bale made 206 appearances for Totteham over a six year spell, scoring 56 goals.

"In the end he is probably going to leave at some point, and I would love to see him back in England at Manchester United or Spurs if they could afford him.
