Dimitar Berbatov's view on how the season should end that will please Liverpool fans

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov has said that he wouldn’t be against Liverpool being handed the Premier League title should the final fixtures of the 2019/20 campaign not be able to be played.

The Premier League announced on Friday that fixtures will continue to be postponed, with a return to action at an indefinite date, although the league have outlined their determination to complete the campaign.

There has now been no action for almost a month due to the outbreak of coronavirus around the world which has not only caused disruption to the football, but to everyday life too.

Ahead of the postponements, Liverpool were edging towards their first ever Premier League title, with a 25-point gap over Manchester City with just nine fixtures left to play.

There has been calls for the season to be ended and be declared null and void, but Berbatov believes that any decision along them lines would be harsh on Jurgen Klopp’s men.

"People are suggesting to give the title to Liverpool, and honestly they deserve it the way they had been playing, nobody was going to catch them," he told Betfair.

"With the way they play their games, the football they produced and how far they are in front, they fully deserve the title this season.

"It's so strange, and it will be unfair on Liverpool if the season is voided, they will be so disappointed."

One team that may not be too against the season being declared null and void is Berbatov’s old team Tottenham, who have had a disappointing season so far.

Jose Mourinho’s men currently sit in eighth position in the table, seven points adrift of fourth place Chelsea. They are though one point above their north London rivals Arsenal who are in ninth place with 40 points.
