Dimitar Berbatov puts himself forward for Manchester United technical director role

Dimitar Berbatov believes he should be under consideration as a possible candidate to fill the vacant technical director role at Manchester United.

United are keen to appoint a new sporting director at the club who will play a key role in all transfer recruitment and look to sign players suitable for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-team plans.

Berbatov's former teammates Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville have both been mooted for the role, however the former Tottenham forward believes he should be considered himself.

Not only does the Bulgarian have an understanding of the club but he believes he also has the qualifications to make himself a suitable candidate for the role.

“After Rio Ferdinand last week, Darren Fletcher is the latest name linked with the Director of Football role but why not Dimitar Berbatov? I have the degree in Sports Management (as well as coaching badges) for starters,” Berbatov wrote in his Betfair blog.

“This is an important position, you are the link between the manager and the team and directors. United have to find someone who can do this the right way.

“I know about the job, how it is performed and it’s on my mind but you need to be ready for this.

“You can’t expect to be given this role purely because you are an ex-player and United will make a mistake if they recruit solely on that basis.”
