Dimitar Berbatov prediction for England vs Bulgaria in Euro 2020 qualifier

Dimitar Berbatov  has claimed “miracles happen in football” as he backed his Bulgaria to beat England for the first time ever at Wembley on Saturday night.

The Three Lions have never lost in 10 matches against Bulgaria and only conceded two goals.

And Krasimir Balakov's side have failed to win in their last nine matches, including their first four qualifying matches in Group A to sit bottom of the table.

But former Tottenham and Manchester United star Berbatov said: “The hosts are overwhelming favourites because they have world-class players, but miracles happen in football.

"I support my country and know our players will give it their best. They’re underdogs and it will be difficult.

“What I like most about this Bulgarian team is their excellent spirit. In the past, England haven't coped with the pressure of playing at Wembley, the Bulgaria team know that and will pounce on any mistakes.”

Head coach Balakov was named along with Hristo Stoichkov in the 1994 World Cup team of the tournament as Bulgaria reached the semi-finals.

“He is a national legend, a member of the team that finished fourth at USA 94 and one of our greatest players,” said Berbatov.

“I know him well and had the pleasure of playing with him for the national team. He only took over as coach this year, so it’s too early to judge him, but I really want Balakov to succeed in the job.

"We’re in a difficult qualifying group for Euro 2020 and, if the players give 100 per cent, the fans can’t ask for more.”

Berbatov, who played last year in the Indian Super League, is currently taking his coaching badges.

“It’s going to be interesting to see where life takes me,” said the 38-year-old.

“Would I like to manage Bulgaria one day? You never know. If I’m in the coaching business, and one day the national team comes and asks for me, we’ll see what happens.”
