Dimitar Berbatov names the two Spurs positions Jose Mourinho must strengthen in transfer window

Former Tottenham forward Dimitar Berbatov has outlined why his old club have the quality to succeed next season.

Having secured European football with their final day draw at Crystal Palace, Jose Mourinho will no doubt be out to go one better next season and secure Champions League football.

Mourinho succeeded Mauricio Pochettino in November of last year and after a tough start, he slowly got his side back on track before finishing the campaign strong.

And Berbatov believes it will now be interesting to see what type of players Mourinho goes after this summer.

Alasdair Gold's Spurs season debrief and the transfer window

“In the end, Spurs achieved their objective by qualifying for Europe,” he told Betfair.

“They have the quality to go further and Jose Mourinho doesn't go to clubs to finish seventh or eighth either.

“They will have plans to go better next season, and it will be interesting to see who Mourinho goes after in the transfer market.

“They have plenty of power in attack, but they need a defender after releasing Vertonghen.

“They will probably wait to see what happens with Fernandes and Ndombele; if they go, they will need players in the middle of the park. Other than that, they have loads of quality to do very well.”
