Dimitar Berbatov makes Antonio Conte claim amid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pressure ahead of Tottenham

After a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of rivals Liverpool on Sunday, things are getting tough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

Sky Sports are reporting that he will remain in charge for the time being, and there is no suggestion from inside the club that Solskjaer's job is under threat at this point, but pressure from the fans is mounting.

It looks as though he'll be in charge for the Red Devils' trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but former Spurs and United striker, Dimitar Berbatov, isn't convinced that he's the man to take the club forward.

Instead, the Bulgarian is of the opinion that former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte - who has been linked with the job - should take over from Solskjaer.

"The latest reports are saying that Antonio Conte is open to taking the United job if it becomes available," he told Betfair.

"He made Inter champions and he made Chelsea champions. Conte has the record and the reputation of working hard, I heard that a lot of times.

"He has been to England and done it, winning the Premier League.

"He is the name that everybody is talking about at the moment and maybe some people are saying that United need this disciplinarian approach, to tell them exactly what the manager expects of you, if they're not doing it, bench. Maybe they need that from time to time?

"Louis Van Gaal was similar to Conte in this way, discipline is the number one priority, but he was also successful and won the FA Cup.

"Conte has all the results and reputation behind him to know how to handle things at a big club in England. He's probably number one on their list."

For now at least, Conte will have to wait to see if anything develops in the coming days, but if United lose to Tottenham at the weekend, then the club may be forced into making a decision sooner than they would've perhaps liked.
