Former Tottenham forward Dimitar Berbatov has warned Christian Eriksen that he would face a "really big challenge" for a place at Real Madrid, if he was to move to the La Liga giants.
The Spurs star was linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer after saying that he felt it might be time for a new challenge, following Tottenham's Champions League final defeat against Liverpool.
But a move failed to materialise and Eriksen stayed at Spurs, with the Danish international playing 11 times so far this season for Mauricio Pochettino's men.
He has come in for some criticism for his performances so far though, with Eriksen yet to show his best form this season, with one goal in his 11 appearances.
And Berbatov has delivered a warning for Eriksen over his future, amid the links with a move to Real Madrid with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
"Real Madrid have a really good squad and for [Christian] Eriksen he knows that he would face a really big challenge for a place if he went there. They have [Toni] Kroos, [Luka] Modric, Isco, [Eden] Hazard - all players that are proven and are world class," Berbatov said, speaking to Betfair .
"Yes, some have been there for a long time and are getting a bit old but that is still a strong line up, so Eriksen needs to ask himself am I ready for that fight, because you can't expect to go there and start playing.
"Hazard has had a difficult time to get himself going there, everybody can have moments like that, you have to ask yourself are you ready for something like that.
"At the same time though you need to get out of your comfort zone, if Eriksen is in his comfort zone and believes he is in a good place and doesn't need to push for anything more then there is a problem.
