Dimitar Berbatov gives Manchester United prediction ahead of Newcastle fixture

Manchester United will be looking to continue their climb up the Premier League table on Monday night when they travel to Newcastle.

Eddie Howe's side currently sit in the relegation spots in the Premier League table and are in desperate need of a result.

Newcastle have lost their last three games and will look to frustrate Ralf Rangnick's side when they travel to the North East.

United will themselves look to make a statement, after only winning their last two games by one goal - after a slow start offensively since Rangnick took over from Solskjaer.

And Dimitar Berbatov has predicted a tough match for his former side.

Speaking in his column in the Metro, Berbatov said: "Newcastle are going to be building their team for the Championship, I said it last week and I’m even more sure of it.

"The fans will be really up for this one, they will make it tough, they also need the points desperately.

"That being said they are leaking goals easily and United can take advantage of that if they stay concentrated. If United have an ambition for big things this season they have to win these matches."

But despite a difficult away trip, Berbatov predicted the Reds will take the three points in a 3-1 win.

Dimitar Berbatov's prediction: Newcastle United 1-3 Manchester United.

Elsewhere, Paul Merson predicted United will drop two points.

He told Sports Keeda : "These big games are coming thick and fast for Newcastle, aren’t they? I thought they showed some good signs last week, but you can’t give away a goal like that so early against Manchester City.

"Newcastle haven’t been all that bad and managed to give a good account of themselves against Liverpool.

"Manchester United did show signs of vulnerability against Norwich last week. We’re going to see a loud Christmas crowd and a packed St. James’ Park this weekend – this will be a hard game for Manchester United."
