Dimitar Berbatov explains what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs from his Manchester United players

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs the club's senior players to 'step up' and help out the talented youngsters.

United are suffering a demoralising run of form at the moment, having picked up a number of underwhelming results since returning after the international break.

Despite overcoming an impressive Leicester City they have since laboured to a narrow victory over Kazakh side Astana, lost comfortably to West Ham, only managed to get past League One side Rochdale in the Carabao Cup on penalties and played out a dull draw with Arsenal.

Despite the results there has been some impressive moments from the younger players in the squad, especially from the likes of Daniel James, Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe and Scott McTominay.

Berbatov was particularly impressed with McTominay against Arsenal but thinks the young players need help from their more experienced colleagues.

"It is good to see that they are giving chances to young players," the Bulgarian told BetFair.

"McTominay was excellent against Arsenal, you can see that he is starting to command the midfield and he scored a great goal, it was an exquisite finish, I could never score a goal like that it was unbelievable.

"At the same time, you can see that some of the players are still young and naive in some situations. In that case they need the experienced players with them.

"From the bench or on the training ground they can teach them valuable lessons and teach them how to deal with different situations in games.

"To put so much pressure on the young players all at once is not so good and that's why they need some of the senior players to step up and help them, all together get back to winning."
